New York Family Court
An educational tool to organize your matter details and use AI-assisted research toward finding experienced New York Family Court attorneys — custody, visitation, support, and related matters — at competitive rates. Not a matching or referral service.
Next step
Add a few case details to build a focused prompt for an AI assistant. Details stay in this browser until you use an AI button — those links put your case details in the destination URL. No attorney is contacted from this site.
Your prompt is ready below. Review and edit it before opening an AI assistant.
Continue
Choose an assistant to open a filled-in prompt using only the case details above. Review and edit it before sending. Ask for counsel criteria, experience and fee questions, and practical preparation — not legal advice. Opening a link puts those details in the destination URL.
The preview updates as you fill in borough / county, matter type, urgency, and notes.
How it works
RetainScout helps you prepare to find New York Family Court representation — with AI-assisted research toward experienced counsel at competitive rates. We do not match you to lawyers, refer counsel, or broker retainers.
Share your borough or county, matter type, urgency, and optional case-related notes. This shapes research prompts — not legal advice.
Open a focused prompt in an AI assistant to organize criteria: Family Court experience, languages, availability, and fee questions to ask real counsel.
Contact attorneys yourself. If you hire someone, they should provide a written retainer. In many domestic-relations matters, NY practice also calls for a Statement of Client’s Rights before you sign.
Counsel criteria
We do not list or recommend specific attorneys. Use these criteria when you research counsel: experience, Family Court focus, pricing transparency, coverage, and language.
Illustrative match for a parent seeking modification of a prior custody order in Kings County, prioritizing courtroom experience over firm prestige.
Illustrative match for child-support enforcement or modification where clear fee estimates and frequent court appearances matter.
Illustrative match when language access and urgent protective-order familiarity are part of the intake criteria.
Educational overview
This is general public information, not legal advice. Court choice can depend on whether a divorce is pending and on your specific facts. Confirm with counsel.
If a divorce or separation case is already open in Supreme Court, custody, visitation, and child support usually belong there; a new Family Court petition may be transferred or dismissed. After a divorce, Family Court is often where people go to modify custody, visitation, or child support — unless the judgment keeps those issues in Supreme Court. Orders of protection can sometimes proceed in Family Court even while a divorce is pending.
Based on publicly available NY Courts / Family Court Act overviews. Always verify for your situation.
If you hire counsel
A retainer is typically an advance payment held under the terms of a written agreement, not a guarantee of unlimited work. Before you sign, you should understand scope, rates, billing, and refund terms.
This website is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. Nothing here creates an attorney–client relationship. RetainScout does not refer, recommend, rank, or endorse lawyers; it does not broker retainers or guarantee any outcome or attorney. We are not a court-authorized referral service. Content about New York Family Court is informational and high-level only; it may be incomplete or outdated and is not a substitute for advice from a licensed New York attorney about your specific facts.
This site is a private preview for evaluation. Password protection is client-side only and is not a security boundary for sensitive data. Case details stay local until you use an AI button, which places them in that tool’s destination URL — do not include information you would not want in a URL or browser storage.
